Taxonomy

Citation: Globigerinelloides aptiensis Longoria 1974
Rank: Species
Basionym: Globigerinelloides aptiensis
Taxonomic discussion: Desribed as Globigerinelloides aptiense spelling of name subsequently corrected to Globigerinelloides aptiensis.
Specimens with six chambers are more frequently observed. [copied from Chronos database]
Similar species: Differs from G. ferreolensis by having 5 to 6 rather than 7 to 9 chambers in the final whorl. [copied from Chronos database]

Type images:

Original description: Globigerinelloides aptiense Longoria 1974: Test as with genus, small size, evolute; peripheral outline subcircular, strongly lobate, five to six chambers in the last whorl; chambers in lateral view spherical to petaloid, increasing gradually in size as added, spherical in apertural view; umbilicus wide; sutures depressed and radial; relict apertures and flaps often observed.

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Globigerinelloides aptiense;

Geological Range:
Notes: FO is recorded as in "H. gobachikae zone" in Chronos database this has been translated here as H. infracretacea zone but this is a bit rough and ready
Last occurrence (top): within H. planispira zone (111.84-113.26Ma, top in Albian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]
First occurrence (base): within H. infracretacea zone (118.02-118.93Ma, base in Aptian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]

Plot of occurrence data:

NB Plotting of Neptune data has been disabled on the Mesozoic pages because the dataset is both small and badly affected by a few sites with erroneous age models (our obs Huber, Petrizzo, Young, Nov 2016). The data can still be viewed via the range plottertool - tools menu.
