Dicarinella concavata

Classification: pf_mesozoic -> Globotruncanidae -> Dicarinella -> Dicarinella concavata
Sister taxa: D. asymetrica, D. bouldinensis, D. canaliculata, D. concavata, D. elata, D. hagni, D. imbricata, D. longoriai, D. primitiva, D. roddai, D. takayanagii,

Citation: Dicarinella concavata (Brotzen, 1934)
Rank: Species
Basionym: Rotalia concavata
Synonyms: Globotruncana araratica; Globotruncana vridhachalensis; Globotruncana concavata cyrenaica
Similar species: -Differs from D. primitiva in having a higher spire an dan angle between the two faces fo the last chambers close to 90 degrees. -Differs from D. asymmetrica by absence of a keel surrounding the umbilicus. -Differs from D. primitiva by having more strongly inflated chambers on the umbilical side. Original description: Rotalia concavata Brotzen 1934: Spiral side depressed and flat plate or bowl-shaped. It has a central disk, and the rim is bordered by an elevated beam. Umbilicus is on umbilical side large and deep. Chambers of the last whorl on the spiral side (six to seven) are similar to those of Rotalia elevata Brotzen, 1934 with only the ridge on the border missing. The umbilical side is like that of R. elevata, and is clearly related with this species.

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Globotruncana araratica;

Rotalia concavata;

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within D. asymetrica zone (84.19-86.71Ma, top in Santonian stage). Data source: [copied from Chronos database]
First occurrence (base): at base of D. concavata zone (0% up, 89.9Ma, in Turonian stage). Data source: zonal marker (from Timescale Creator)

Plot of occurrence data:

NB Plotting of Neptune data has been disabled on the Mesozoic pages because the dataset is both small and badly affected by a few sites with erroneous age models (our obs Huber, Petrizzo, Young, Nov 2016). The data can still be viewed via the range plottertool - tools menu.
